About the Freedom Fund:
The Freedom Fund (www.freedomfund.org) is the world’s first private donor fund dedicated to identifying and investing in the most effective frontline efforts to end modern slavery. It:
● generates private funding by demonstrating how effective interventions can protect those at risk of being enslaved and free those in slavery.
● invests in those countries and sectors with the greatest incidence of slavery.
● analyses which interventions work best, and shares that knowledge.
● brings together a community of activists committed to ending slavery and empowered by the knowledge of how best to do so.
The Fund commenced in January 2014. It now has programs in Northern India, Southern India, Ethiopia, Thailand, Southern-Eastern Nepal and Central Nepal. It currently supports and funds 60 NGOs around the world. It has $50m pledged of the $100m it seeks to raise by 2020. The organisation is headquartered in London, and also has an office in New York.
About the Position:
Reporting to the Managing Director, North America, the Communications Manager will work closely with the Freedom Fund team to enhance the profile of the Freedom Fund and to align its public communications to the broader objectives of the organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
Specifically the Communications Manager will:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive communications and media plan for the Freedom Fund with the support of other team members;
- Write clear and impactful op-eds, blog entries and media releases;
- Manage the production of Freedom Fund publications , including brochures and reports;
- Manage and build the Freedom Fund’s social media presence, including Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn accounts;
- Manage the Freedom Fund’s e-communications, including drafting and publishing impactful emails to distribution lists;
- Work with outside vendors to execute updates to the Freedom Fund’s website;
- Proactively monitor the news cycle;
- Maintain and oversee the Freedom Fund’s brand guidelines;
- Where needed, work with Freedom Fund donors and partners to effectively promote their support of the Freedom Fund.
Qualifications and experience
- Highest quality writing skills – with the ability to write clearly, sharply and impactfully, in a way that is tailored to the target audience;
- Ability to prepare media releases, and manage release process, including preparing briefs for key media contacts;
- Experience in transforming content (such as reports) to suit a variety of formats (such as website pages and blogs);
- Clear understanding of social media and its effective use;
- Ability to manage FF website, using WordPress or a similar platform;
- An understanding of media hooks, PR opportunities, and media landscape analysis, including an ability to judge and implement tactics and campaigns that will attract local, national and international press attention;
- Excellent planning, project management and organizational skills, so as to manage multiple priorities at once, while also ensuring thorough attention to detail;
- Ability to clearly and powerfully articulate and communicate the Freedom Fund’s mission, business model, and work.
- Strong IT skills, including a familiarity with email marketing platforms.
- At least three years of experience in a professional environment. Experience in the international development or human rights sector would be highly valued, though is not essential to be considered.

Compensation:
- Salary will be USD$70,000 per annum (requests to pro-rate salary over four days per week would be considered).
- 25 days holiday pro rata, plus public holidays.
- 10% non-contributory pension scheme.
