About the Freedom Fund

The Freedom Fund is a leader in the global fight against modern slavery. It:

  • generates private funding by demonstrating how effective interventions can protect those at risk of being enslaved and free those in slavery.

The Freedom Fund has programs in northern India, southern India, Ethiopia, Thailand, south-eastern Nepal and central Nepal. It currently supports and funds approximately 100 organisations in these regions, the vast majority of which are frontline, community-based NGOs. It works to influence global policy by commissioning and sharing research and amplifying the voices of its partners.

About the position

This is an exciting position for a human rights or development professional in the early stages of his or her career. The successful candidate will assist the Deputy Director of Programs in reviewing, improving, and where necessary, setting up new internal program management systems to ensure consistency and quality across the Freedom Fund’s hotspots. S/he will also support staff based in hotspot countries to capture, consolidate and communicate the impact of their work. The Program Assistant will gain exposure to a wide variety of thematic issues and geographies, as well as the operational systems that contribute to a high functioning non-profit. S/he will join a growing London-based team and work closely with the Freedom Fund’s staff and partners around the world.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Program team to achieve high-quality grant management across hotspots.
  • Work with the Deputy Director to develop and refine the Freedom Fund’s tools, templates and approaches, including for due diligence on potential grantees, impact measurement and reporting.
  • Clean and consolidate impact, financial and operational data emanating from the hotspots, working with the M&E and Finance teams.
  • Provide administrative, logistical, communications and research support to Program team staff and consultants, both in headquarters and hotspot countries, as required.

Qualifications and experience

The Freedom Fund seeks an energetic, thoughtful and committed Program Assistant who will be excited by the opportunity of contributing to the professional management of a growing portfolio of grants aimed at combatting modern slavery.

Essential

  • Three to five years of experience in international development, human rights, or a related field
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience with a variety of monitoring and evaluation tools
  • Experience collecting and managing impact data and presenting it in visually accessible formats
  • Understanding of budgets and basic expenditure tracking
  • Experience working with public or private donors
  • Entitled to work in the UK without work permit sponsorship from the Freedom Fund

Desirable

  • Experience in the anti-slavery sector or in countries with a high incidence of slavery
  • Experience of working with local civil society org
  • Knowledge of languages other than English

Compensation

  • £29,000 to £33,000 per year, depending on experience
  • 10% non-contributory pension scheme
  • 25 days holiday per year, plus public holidays
  • Season ticket loan and childcare voucher schemes available.
